As a director, Andrew aims to serve the play, to combine his understanding with the most effective physical and imaginative realisation of the work with the resources available.
Though he has a substantial background of literary and theatre study supporting his work as a director, his formidable and wide-ranging experience as an actor provides a valuable and complimentary resource. As each project to some degree calls for its own approach, his preferred starting point in a working process will vary, but generally involves improvisation, and empowering the actor through imagination, communication and play. Developing a creative and timely response to the work is an essential aspect of Andrew’s directing practice.
Andrew has been employed as a theatre director at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, Drama Centre London, Central St Martin’s University of the Arts London, Middlesex University, Rose Bruford College, Central School of Speech and Drama, LAMDA, Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, and Mills College, Oakland, California.
